Phil Foden hopes recent form can earn him an England recall

Phil Foden is hoping to return to England’s squad after being left out of the World Cup team and recent Nations League selections.

The 26-year-old Manchester City midfielder has not played for England since March.

He says he has had no recent contact with manager Thomas Tuchel about what he needs to do to earn a recall.

Foden was sent off against Manchester United in September and then spent more than a month without playing.

He says the break helped him feel fresh and sharp, and he has scored four goals in his last five appearances for City.

His recent form comes as City seek more goals from players beyond striker Erling Haaland.

Tuchel will name his next squad on Friday for Nations League matches against Croatia and Spain, though Foden says a call-up may take time.
