Basel and Grasshoppers draw 0-0 in Swiss Super League

FC Basel and Grasshoppers drew 0-0 in the 11th round of Switzerland’s Super League at St. Jakob-Park in Basel.

Basel had more of the ball, but Grasshoppers’ compact defense limited its chances.

Grasshoppers looked to counterattack and came close through a long-range shot and a header, both saved by Basel goalkeeper Jonas Omlin.

In the 76th minute, Grasshoppers goalkeeper Marvin Hübel was injured while taking a goal kick, and substitute Justin Hammel came on.

Basel threatened late, but a header hit the crossbar and the home side created no decisive chance in eight minutes of added time.

The draw ended Basel’s run of three home defeats, though the source says it was below the club’s expectations.

Grasshoppers are due to host FC Vaduz next Saturday, while Basel are scheduled to play league leaders Lugano away on Sunday.
