Writer Tobi Lakmaker joins Dutch quiz show De Slimste Mens

Dutch writer Tobi Lakmaker is competing on De Slimste Mens, a television quiz show in the Netherlands.

Lakmaker, born in Amsterdam in 1994, is also a columnist for the newspaper De Volkskrant.

His 2021 debut novel, De geschiedenis van mijn seksualiteit, brought him wide attention for its personal story and mix of humor and serious themes.

The book was nominated for two literary prizes, and Lakmaker won the Hans Vervoort Prize for Prose in 2022.

His work has also been translated into several languages, including English, Italian and Spanish.

His career in writing and his growing international reach form the background to his appearance on the show.

He has been preparing by testing his general knowledge, and said the process made him realize how much he did not know.
