Cheonan and South Chungcheong plan measures to ease Nambu-daero traffic

Cheonan and South Chungcheong Province are planning measures to ease traffic on Nambu-daero, a major road in Cheonan, South Korea.

The road carries about 70,000 vehicles a day, with severe congestion at key intersections during rush hours.

The plans include new connecting roads and changes to the layout of major intersections.

Cheonan also aims to partly subsidize tolls for commuters passing through seven local highway toll gates, with the measure targeted for next year.

The subsidy is intended to encourage drivers to take alternate routes, while the road projects would add routes for traffic to use.

The city and province will also seek to include a bypass between Baebang and Mokcheon in the national road construction plan, to spread traffic away from Nambu-daero.
