Woman injured by firework at Lula victory celebration in São Paulo state

Luísa Siqueira was hit by a firework while celebrating President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s re-election in Cerqueira César, in São Paulo state.

The 30-year-old suffered a neck injury and lost hearing in one ear.

She had joined about 100 people in the town’s main square after watching the election results with friends and family.

Siqueira and her brother, a local Workers’ Party leader, suspect the attack was politically motivated because of their support for Lula.

The person who fired the firework has not been identified, and Siqueira says she needs footage from cameras in the square to help establish who was responsible.

The state public security department had not responded to a request for comment.

I didn’t realize they were acting maliciously and aimed fireworks at me. I’m known as a PT supporter here in the city, my brother is in politics, and we became a target.

There were people who were already celebrating Bolsonaro’s victory in advance with fireworks, provoking others. My sister was in a car and someone on the other side, a Bolsonaro supporter, aimed the firework and hit my sister.
