Morgan says Sanremo needs more focus on music

At the Rome Film Festival, musician Morgan criticised Sanremo’s direction and said the contest is missing its main purpose.

Sanremo is Italy’s major annual song festival, and Morgan described it as a national institution that attracts viewers regardless of who leads it.

His comments came as Stefano De Martino is being discussed as a possible artistic director; Morgan said he knew him as a dancer and praised his dancing.

Morgan argued that the festival should put music at its centre, and said people leading it should understand songs.

His remarks came during the presentation of *Non importa dove*, a documentary about his life.

The film covers his music, personal struggles and desire to return to creative work, and Morgan said making it was therapeutic.

He also spoke about public protests and argued that money should go to schools, wages, pensions and services rather than weapons.

The sources give no decision on Sanremo’s leadership or any response from Rai.
