China and Russia pledge to deepen cooperation in Beijing talks

Zhao Leji met Valentina Matviyenko in Beijing on November 2 to discuss China-Russia relations.

Zhao leads China’s national legislature, and Matviyenko chairs Russia’s Federation Council.

The meeting came as the two countries marked 30 years of strategic partnership and 25 years since signing a treaty on good-neighbourly cooperation.

Zhao called for stronger cooperation in trade, energy, transport links and newer fields such as artificial intelligence and digital business.

The leaders also backed closer exchanges between their legislatures, including sharing experience on laws related to technology and digital business.

They said cooperation could support stronger economic and cultural ties and coordination in international forums, while plans include a China-Russia Year of Education.
