Abhinay Deo says Doosra received an A certificate without a fight
Filmmaker Abhinay Deo says he has never fought with India’s film certification board, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
His upcoming film Doosra received an A certificate, which means it is restricted to adult audiences.
The film follows Tara, played by Plabita Borthakur, a young woman in conservative Rajasthan who questions restrictions on her life.
It links her story to India’s 2002 NatWest Series cricket victory, remembered for Sourav Ganguly waving his shirt from the Lord’s balcony.
The CBFC reportedly raised concerns about scenes and sought changes, but Deo says the board asked him to change one word and he accepted the adult rating rather than make cuts.
He says Delhi Belly also received an A certificate, and that he is comfortable with Doosra reaching viewers on streaming.
Filmmaker Abhinay Deo says he has never fought with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) over his films.
He says both Doosra and his 2011 film Delhi Belly received A certificates without cuts.
For Doosra, the board asked for one word to be changed, and Deo chose an A certificate rather than make the requested scene changes.
The film stars Plabita Borthakur as a young woman in conservative Rajasthan who questions restrictions placed on her.
Deo said the film was not intended for a 13-year-old to watch alone, though he considered its themes important for young people.

What people are saying
My experience with anything that could be considered objectionable goes back to Delhi Belly, my first movie, and now Doosra, my latest film. Interestingly, both films were adult-rated, and both were passed without cuts.
My meeting with the board lasted seven or eight minutes, maybe ten. They asked what rating I was expecting, and I said a U/A rating would be great, but if that meant cuts, I would rather go without them.
I have never had a fight with them
This is not a film for a 13-year-old to come and watch on their own, though it is a very important film for a 13-year-old to see as well
