AWS Cloud Capacity Booked Through 2027 Amid AI Demand

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy says AWS cloud capacity is running short as demand for computing grows.

This year's supply is sold out, and most of 2027 is booked, with a significant share of 2028 capacity also reserved.

Amazon has kept some capacity available for customers needing it immediately and for its Bedrock and EC2 services.

AI companies and other businesses are driving demand, while data centers, electricity, chips and memory remain limited.

Amazon plans to spend about $220 billion this year on capital projects, including AI data centers and computing infrastructure, but Jassy says that may not be enough to meet demand.

The shortage could affect AWS growth and profitability, which investors are watching.

Amazon is due to report third-quarter results on October 29; Jassy says the company can adjust purchases of servers and network equipment if demand slows.
