Tito Urges Sumatra Leaders to Use More Post-Disaster Aid
Indonesia’s home affairs minister Tito Karnavian urged local leaders to use more post-disaster aid in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra.
President Prabowo Subianto’s government sent the three provinces about 268 billion rupiah, then 10.6 trillion rupiah in February 2026 and 1.9 trillion rupiah in August.
By October, Tito said some local governments had spent less than 10% of their aid, while others had used up to 60%.
He said recovery must be shared between local and central governments, rather than left to the national government alone.
Floods and mud damaged health facilities, and Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said nine hospitals had stopped operating.
All affected hospitals were operating again within a month, while thousands of affected community health centres were back in service within 2.5 months.
Local leaders are being urged to use the funds well as recovery continues, including the repair of health facilities.
