South Korean opposition leader criticizes president's council livestreams and social media use

People Power Party floor leader Jeong Jeom-sik criticized President Lee Jae-myung at a party meeting in South Korea's National Assembly on October 19.

Jeong said Lee's live broadcasts of cabinet meetings and social media posts showed that he was politically cornered.

He argued the broadcasts focused on minor instructions while some issues affecting public safety and finances were discussed privately.

Jeong also criticized Lee's exchanges with members of the public online and his informal wording.

He called three Democratic Party local leaders—Gyeonggi Governor Choo Mi-ae, Gangwon Governor Woo Sang-ho and Incheon Mayor Park Chan-dae—irresponsible and incompetent, citing disputes over budgets, a data centre and the relocation of a government office.

The remarks add to opposition criticism of the president and Democratic Party leaders, but no response or next step was reported.
