Five French people rescued after sailboat wrecks off Lanzarote

Five French people were rescued after their sailboat wrecked near the port of Órzola on Lanzarote, in Spain’s Canary Islands.

One person reached shore over rocks, while the other four waited on a life raft until rescuers arrived.

Two of the five showed signs of hypothermia and minor injuries, but no serious condition was reported.

The boat ran aground against the port breakwater and was destroyed.

The cause of the wreck is not known, and the remains were reported not to pose a danger to navigation.

A team was due to check for a fuel leak and assess how to recover the wreckage.
