Isarda dam work accelerated to meet Rajasthan water supply targets
Rajasthan is speeding up work on the Isarda dam in Tonk district to meet water supply targets.
Built on the Banas river, it is the state’s first dam to use advanced Swedish hydraulic systems.
Urban supply through the main pipeline is targeted for next month, while rural connections will be added in phases where infrastructure is ready.
Chief Secretary V. Srinivas reviewed progress and land acquisition for the next phase during a visit to the district.
The project is intended to ease water shortages in neighbouring Dausa and Sawai Madhopur districts.
A second phase would supply Ramgarh dam near Jaipur, which has largely been dry since 2000, and raise its storage capacity to 10.77 thousand million cubic feet.
The state has not given a completion date for that phase.
