Saudi Arabia executes five citizens convicted of terrorism

Saudi Arabia executed five citizens in its Eastern Province on Saturday, according to the Interior Ministry.

The ministry said the men were convicted of joining a foreign terrorist group, firing at security forces and vehicles, possessing weapons and ammunition, and supporting terrorism inside the country.

The ministry said the men were accused of attacks intended to kill security personnel and of helping fund and carry out operations.

A court found them guilty and sentenced them to death under a form of punishment known as ta'zir.

Their convictions became final after appeals and Supreme Court review, the ministry said, and a royal order was issued to carry out the sentences.

The executions put the court-approved sentences into effect; the ministry warned that people who commit similar acts would face punishment.
