Harri Jones clinches Porsche Carrera Cup title with a round to spare

Harri Jones secured the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia title at Surfers Paradise, Australia, by finishing second in Race 2.

The McElrea Racing driver started from pole in heavy rain but lost the lead to New Zealand’s Tom Bewley on the opening lap.

Second place was enough to clinch the championship, with David Russell no longer able to catch Jones mathematically.

The race was repeatedly interrupted by safety cars as drivers struggled in the wet conditions.

Officials stopped the race because of the weather, and Bewley was declared the winner, with Aaron Love third.

Jones had secured the title with one race still to run.

The series’ final race is scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
