Harithasree brings vegetable gardens to 56 Vettikavala schools
The Vettikavala block panchayat is teaching farming through school gardens under its Harithasree initiative.
The project has reached 56 schools across six grama panchayats in the block.
Schools received seedlings of six vegetables, along with organic fertilisers, with at least 450 seedlings provided to each school.
In total, 28,000 vegetable saplings have been distributed.
The gardens are meant to give children practical farming experience, encourage organic agriculture and help supply vegetables for school mid-day meals.
Local representatives are checking that the gardens are cared for, and the block panchayat plans to expand the project to more schools in coming years.
