Unitree revenue jumps 70% as higher AI spending cuts quarterly profit

Hangzhou-based Unitree Robotics reported higher quarterly revenue in its first earnings since going public.

Revenue for the three months to September 30 rose 69.93% year on year to 665 million yuan.

Profit excluding one-off items fell 17.42% to 105 million yuan, even as revenue grew.

The company’s research and development spending rose 249.58% to 127.04 million yuan, about 19% of revenue, as it invested in the software that powers its robots.

The results show Unitree is spending heavily to develop its technology, while its quarterly profit measure is under pressure.

Chinese robotics stocks have also been rising on expectations that robots will reach mass deployment sooner; upcoming earnings from Yushu Technology are expected to draw attention.
