Former Dazhou political adviser expelled from party and public office

Sichuan authorities expelled Chen Wensheng from the Communist Party and public office after an investigation into serious misconduct.

Chen was the former party group secretary of the Dazhou Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, a political advisory body in Sichuan province.

Investigators said he interfered in project tenders and improperly sought promotion benefits, and accepted cash gifts over a long period.

They also said he used his position to obtain benefits for others in exchange for property, and gave property to others to gain improper benefits; the amounts were described as especially large.

Authorities said his conduct may amount to bribery and offering bribes, and ordered the recovery of illicit gains.

The suspected crimes have been sent to prosecutors for review and possible prosecution, with related property also transferred.
