BMKG Says Cyclone Champi Is Not Directly Pulling Indonesian Fire Smoke
Indonesia’s BMKG says Cyclone Champi is not sucking in fire smoke or directly changing its spread.
The cyclone is about 1,890 kilometres north of Tahuna, North Sulawesi, and is moving away from Indonesia.
Its circulation could still affect weather in parts of the country, including by bringing moderate to heavy rain to North Kalimantan, northern West Kalimantan and northern Riau Islands.
Rain can capture some smoke particles and carry them to the ground, lowering the amount in the air where it falls.
Champi is currently a category 4 cyclone, and BMKG expects it to weaken while continuing away from Indonesia.
BMKG advises people to follow its official updates.
BMKG says Tropical Cyclone Champi is not directly pulling smoke from forest and land fires or changing its direction.
The agency says the cyclone’s circulation may indirectly affect atmospheric conditions in parts of Indonesia.
