Chinese chip firms forecast sharp profit growth as AI demand rises

Chinese chip firms are forecasting sharp profit growth as demand rises for AI infrastructure and locally made processors.

Shanghai-listed laser-chip maker Yuanjie Semiconductor expects third-quarter net profit of 403 million to 453 million yuan, up 579% to 660% from a year earlier.

It says data-centre demand is driving shipments and supporting high margins.

Memory-chip maker CXMT expects up to US$8.2 billion in third-quarter profit, according to the reported forecast.

CXMT ranked fourth worldwide in DRAM revenue in the second quarter, behind Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron.

The gains reflect China’s push to rely more on domestic technology, as AI demand spreads across chip supply chains.

Final third-quarter results are still to be announced.
