Tianjin Opens Institute to Support Infrastructure REITs

At a financial forum in Tianjin, the city launched a research institute focused on REITs.

The institute brings together government departments, regulators, universities and state-owned companies to support the development of infrastructure REITs in Tianjin.

REITs are a way for asset owners to raise money from existing assets, which can help them recover funds and reduce debt.

A Nankai University finance professor said Tianjin has many existing assets and a strong basis for developing this market.

The forum also released a report on green finance in Hexi district and opened a centre to connect technology companies with capital markets.

The district has innovation facilities that could serve as underlying assets for REITs.

Tianjin plans to improve how it identifies and prepares REITs projects and bring more quality assets to capital markets.
