At least 927 homeless people died in France in 2025

A French group that tracks deaths among people without stable housing counted at least 927 deaths in France in 2025.

The total was slightly lower than the 938 deaths counted in 2024, but the group says this is a pause in its tally, not proof that fewer people died.

Its count is incomplete, and the true number may be higher.

Of those counted, 306 people were living on the street, 264 were in accommodation, and the group could not establish the main situation for 357.

The people who died were 49 years old on average, and 20 were younger than 15.

Cold-related deaths rose to 22, the highest level since 2012, with all occurring in autumn or winter.

France's official estimate of the homeless population dates from 2012, but the national statistics institute is due to publish updated figures from a new survey by the end of 2026.
