Zofingen court orders treatment and deportation for man who injured seven

A Zofingen court found a 44-year-old Spanish man not criminally responsible for attacking people in the Swiss town in May 2024.

He injured seven people, some seriously, in attacks near the railway station and in two homes.

The man has paranoid schizophrenia, and experts said he was highly psychotic during the attacks.

He believed the Mafia was pursuing him and wanted to kill him and members of his family.

The court ordered long-term inpatient psychiatric treatment, a measure known in Switzerland as “small confinement,” instead of a prison sentence.

It also ordered his deportation from Switzerland for 15 years; his lawyer had opposed deportation.

The ruling is not yet legally binding.
