Amazon plans to sell Trainium AI chips outside AWS from late 2027

Amazon plans to sell Trainium AI chips outside AWS from late 2027

Amazon plans to sell its Trainium AI chips to outside customers starting in late 2027.

The chips were developed to help Amazon rely less on Nvidia’s expensive GPUs, and have so far been used within Amazon’s cloud business.

The move would put Amazon in direct competition with Nvidia and AMD in the market for AI chips.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said demand for Trainium is strong, with customers asking to use it outside Amazon Web Services, or AWS.

AWS is adding an AI accelerator about every 14 seconds as customers take up new computing capacity.

The cloud business reported $46 billion in revenue in the third quarter, up 39.3% from a year earlier.

Outside sales are planned to begin in late 2027, though Amazon did not give further details about how the chips will be sold.
