OAPEC symposium in Riyadh focuses on cutting emissions in oil industries

OAPEC and Saudi Arabia’s Energy Ministry opened a symposium in Riyadh on October 14.

The two-day event focuses on cutting carbon emissions from downstream petroleum industries, which process oil and make petroleum products.

The discussions come as these industries face pressure to meet demand while improving efficiency and reducing emissions.

Speakers highlighted carbon capture, artificial intelligence and carbon recycling as tools for managing emissions and improving efficiency.

They also said energy security and affordability must be considered when countries choose ways to cut emissions.

Government, industry and academic representatives are meeting to exchange expertise and practical ideas, with the symposium scheduled to continue through October 15 alongside the World Petroleum Congress.
