Toulouse court rejects challenge to Jean-Luc Moudenc’s election
A Toulouse court rejected François Piquemal’s challenge to Jean-Luc Moudenc’s election as mayor in March 2026.
Piquemal, a lawmaker from the France Unbowed party, sought to annul the second-round result, which he lost by 13,227 votes.
The challenge cited foreign online interference and a disinformation campaign targeting France Unbowed during the municipal election.
A French government service had said an Israeli company was probably behind the campaign.
The court accepted that the attacks on Piquemal were exceptionally violent, but found the posts had limited visibility and were not shown to have spread widely.
The court said there was no proof the interference changed votes, and described the victory margin as substantial.
Piquemal’s lawyer argued that election judges should have gathered more evidence about the interference.
Piquemal can appeal the decision.
