Italy ranks third for studies presented at European cancer congress

Italy ranks third worldwide for research abstracts presented at the European Society for Medical Oncology congress, behind the United States and China.

It is the top European country by this measure, repeating its position from last year.

The congress opens in Madrid and brings together more than 40,000 cancer specialists and doctors from over 180 countries.

Giuseppe Curigliano, the society’s elected president, said Italy’s showing was positive despite difficulties facing research in the country.

He said medical research is an important national asset and should be supported.

The event brings together a global oncology community, while the information available gives no further details about what follows.
