WoW: Forever plans major content updates about every four months
Blizzard plans major WoW: Forever updates about every four months, slower than the roughly eight-week schedule in modern World of Warcraft.
The new version of the online role-playing game is designed to bring back the slower pace of its original era.
Principal game designer Kris Zierhut said the team found that updates every eight to ten weeks felt too fast during WoW Classic’s Season of Discovery.
Activities will also unlock between major updates, so players will not have to wait months for all new content.
Major releases are expected to center on new raid tiers and also include activities for characters below the maximum level.
The first major update is planned for Spring 2027, with raids, dungeons, quests and a new PvP season.
A further major update is planned for Summer 2027, bringing more raids and dungeons alongside other additions.
WoW: Forever launches on November 4, and Blizzard’s slower schedule is meant to give players more time to experience each release.
World of Warcraft: Forever is planned to receive major content updates about every four months, or 17 weeks.
Principal game designer Kris Zierhut said Blizzard chose a slower schedule after finding updates every eight to 10 weeks too fast for Season of Discovery.
Content will also unlock during update cycles, rather than arriving all at once on patch day.
The first major update is planned for Spring 2027, with new raids, dungeons and quests.
Forever is scheduled to launch on November 4, 2026.

What people are saying
So we've done a lot of experimentation to see what is the correct rate, and we're fairly convinced the correct rate is something closer to once every four months or 17 weeks or three times a year, whatever you want to call it.
It felt way, way, way too fast.
It’s not just patch day comes [around], here’s a content fire hose, and now we’re silent for four months,
