At least 64 killed in high-speed train collision in Spain

Two high-speed trains collided near Toledo in central Spain, killing at least 64 people and injuring dozens.

The trains were carrying more than 500 passengers and travelling from Madrid towards Seville.

One train had stopped after a reported signal fault, and the other struck it; officials say the cause has not been confirmed.

The crash is the second deadly collision in nine months on the line linking Madrid with Andalusia in southern Spain.

The deaths have renewed questions about safety on a network that is a source of national pride and carries growing numbers of passengers.

Rescue workers are searching the wreckage, and the death toll could rise.

Rail services between Madrid, Ciudad Real and Andalusia are suspended while the investigation continues.
