Chungju to support International Baccalaureate programs in local schools
Chungju City and its education support office signed an agreement to help develop International Baccalaureate programs in local schools.
The IB is an international school program developed by a nonprofit based in Switzerland that aims to encourage students to take charge of their learning.
Five schools in Chungju currently run IB programs, including elementary, middle and high schools.
The city plans to provide extra funding as schools progress, including 25 million won for a school that earns final IB World School status.
Schools move through interested-school and candidate-school stages before reaching that final status.
The city expects full support to begin in the first half of 2027, after it revises local rules and completes budget procedures, and says the program can offer international-level education in ordinary local schools regardless of where students live or their family’s financial circumstances.
