Ntamack injury leaves France short at fly-half for South Africa clash

France lost fly-half Romain Ntamack to a shoulder injury during its 54-17 win over Fiji in Lyon.

Coach Fabien Galthie said the injury was serious and could rule Ntamack out for the rest of the Nations Championship.

France is already without Matthieu Jalibert, Thomas Ramos and Antoine Hastoy, leaving the team short of options at fly-half.

The shortage matters because France faces South Africa in Paris on Friday.

Louis Carbonel has been called into the squad, while uncapped Axel Desperes is another possible option.

Galthie may instead pair scrum-halves Antoine Dupont and Maxime Lucu in the halves, with Lucu recently playing fly-half for Bordeaux Begles.
