GM plans eyes-off driving for pickups, crossovers and large SUVs
General Motors plans to bring eyes-off driving to more of its vehicles, including pickups, crossovers and large SUVs.
The technology is set to debut in the Cadillac Escalade IQ in 2028, then expand to other models.
Drivers will initially be able to look away on highways while the vehicle drives under certain conditions, with use expected to expand to other roads.
GM says it eventually wants vehicles to handle tasks such as collecting groceries without anyone inside.
The company is also developing an AI assistant for vehicles, expected to launch in the 2027 Cadillac Lyriq before reaching more GM models.
Drivers will be able to choose whether to share data, and human OnStar advisers will remain available, including during emergencies.
