Hillhouse launches TeraNova DC, plans up to $15 billion investment in India
Hillhouse Investments has launched TeraNova DC, a platform to develop and operate data centres in India.
The Singapore-based investment firm plans to put about $12 billion to $15 billion into the platform and develop more than 2GW of capacity by 2032.
TeraNova plans to build campuses in Maharashtra, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi-NCR and Gujarat for cloud computing, businesses and AI workloads.
India’s data centre capacity grew from about 375MW in 2020 to around 1.57GW in August 2026, and is projected to approach 8GW by 2030.
Demand is rising as cloud use and AI expand, alongside digital payments, streaming, e-commerce and businesses moving more work online.
India generates nearly 20% of the world’s data but has only 3% of global data centre capacity, pointing to room for the sector to grow.
TeraNova aims to build more than 2GW by 2032, using modular construction and planning for renewable energy and water-efficient cooling.
