João Amoêdo backs Lula in Brazil’s presidential runoff
João Amoêdo says he will vote for Lula in Brazil’s presidential runoff against Senator Flávio Bolsonaro.
Amoêdo is a banker and a co-founder and former leader of the Novo party, which he left in 2022.
He sees a Bolsonaro presidency as the greater risk, despite saying he strongly criticizes Lula’s government.
Amoêdo faulted Lula over public spending, political division and appointments to Brazil’s Supreme Court, and criticized Flávio Bolsonaro’s record and the suspicions involving him.
He said the election has focused more on rejecting opponents than on discussing plans for the country.
Amoêdo says he will oppose either winner after the vote, which is scheduled for Sunday, October 25.
João Amoêdo declared his support for Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Brazil’s 2026 presidential runoff.
He said a new Lula government would be less risky than a government led by Flávio Bolsonaro.
Amoêdo criticized both candidates and said he would oppose whoever won.
He argued that the runoff had become a choice driven by rejection of the other candidate rather than support for political proposals.
The runoff was scheduled for Sunday, October 25.
