Türkiye and Armenia complete tender process for Ani Bridge restoration
Türkiye and Armenia have completed the tender process for rebuilding the historic Ani Bridge on their border.
The bridge is at the Ani archaeological site in Türkiye’s eastern province of Kars, beside the Arpaçay River.
Only the bridge’s piers remain; its 31-metre arch collapsed in 1807.
Built in the 10th century, it served as a Silk Road customs crossing and trade route between East and West.
The Ani site is on UNESCO’s World Heritage List, and the bridge is part of its cultural heritage.
A joint commission will coordinate the restoration under a protocol signed by the two countries in May.
The project aims to preserve the structure for future generations.
