Germany forecasts 4.09% pension increase for July 2027

Germany's government expects state pensions to rise by 4.09% from July 2027, benefiting around 21 million retirees.

The increase is a forecast, and one report rounded it to 4.1%; the exact figure has not been settled.

Pension increases are linked mainly to wage growth, so the latest assumptions about earnings shape the estimate.

The government also guarantees the pension level will not fall below 48% of average earnings through 2031.

The previous increase was 4.24% in 2026, and the 2027 forecast is lower than the 4.4% estimate made over the summer.

The final increase is due to be announced in spring, once more data is available.

Pension contributions are forecast to rise from 18.6% to 19.7% in 2028, while the government is preparing a broader pension reform by the end of 2026.
