Delhi SIR Camps Aid Homeless, Transgender Persons and Sex Workers
Delhi officials held special evening camps to help some people take part in the voter-roll process.
The camps were for homeless people, transgender persons and sex workers.
They took place on September 23 and 24.
Officials chose evening hours because many people in these communities are away during the day.
Some homeless people do not have fixed addresses or standard identity documents.
Staff brought voter lists and blank forms to the camps.
They helped eligible people fill out forms and received applications to add or update voter details.
The poll body also added more officers to process applications and objections faster.
Special camps were held across Delhi on September 23 and 24 to support homeless, transgender persons and sex workers during the ongoing SIR.
The camps operated from 5 pm to 9 pm at DUSIB night shelters and other locations where members of these communities were found.
Officials distributed Form-6 applications, helped people complete them, and accepted Form-6 and Form-8 applications.
The evening schedule was chosen because many homeless and transgender people are away from the streets during daytime hours.
The Delhi poll body deployed 605 additional AEROs alongside 297 existing officers to process notices, claims and objections.
