JICA Road Project Under Fire for Dumping Waste into Meghalaya's Umngot River

JICA Road Project Under Fire for Dumping Waste into Meghalaya's Umngot River

A big road construction project in India is in trouble because the company building it dumped a lot of dirt and garbage into a river.

This river, called the Umngot, is usually very clear and beautiful, and lots of tourists visit it.

People who live there are upset because the river is now dirty and they are worried about their jobs, which often come from tourism.

Officials came to see the mess and told the company to clean it up right away and to be more careful.

They also took samples of the water to check if it's okay.

The company has to promise to follow rules to protect the environment and get special permission to keep working.
