India's infrastructure output rises 4.8% in August on growth

India measures how important industries such as electricity, cement and fuel are performing.

In August, this combined output grew by 4.8% compared with August last year.

Cement and electricity production grew strongly.

Steel and iron ore production also increased.

However, coal, crude oil, fertiliser and natural gas production fell.

The stronger sectors helped balance the weaker ones.

Growth in July was slightly higher at a revised 5%.

From April through August, infrastructure output grew 4.3%, better than the 2.4% growth recorded in the same period last year.
