Assamese Woman Deported to Bangladesh Challenges Citizenship Order

Assamese Woman Deported to Bangladesh Challenges Citizenship Order

A woman named Aheda Khatun was sent to Bangladesh from India because a court said she was not an Indian citizen.

She is now asking the highest court in India, the Supreme Court, to help her.

The court that sent her away did not look at all her papers, like her school certificate and voter lists that show her family has lived in India for a long time.

She was kept in a detention camp before being sent away.

The Supreme Court has asked the government to check her papers and respond by March 16.

Another woman in a similar situation was also sent to Bangladesh and is also asking the Supreme Court for help.

Aheda's family, including her parents and siblings, are all recognized as Indian citizens, but she was marked as a doubtful voter because her case was still being decided.
