Ganesh Thirumuru Edges Jadhav in Asian Games Archery
Ganesh Mani Ratnam Thirumuru won a very close compound archery match at the Asian Games.
He beat his Indian teammate Sahil Jadhav by one point, 149-148.
Both archers had won their earlier matches against competitors from Indonesia and Mongolia.
The match stayed close through four sets.
In the final set, Ganesh shot two 10s and an X. Sahil shot an X, a 10 and a 9.
Ganesh will now compete against Chieh-lun Chen of Chinese Taipei.
The quarterfinal is scheduled for October 1.
Ganesh is now India’s only archer left in the men’s individual compound event.
Ganesh Mani Ratnam Thirumuru defeated fellow Indian Sahil Jadhav 149-148 in the men’s compound individual round of 16.
Thirumuru previously beat Indonesia’s Sostar Andaru Rinaldi 144-142, while Jadhav defeated Mongolia’s Jamiyangombo Purevdorj 149-137.
The all-Indian match was decided in the fifth set, when Thirumuru scored two 10s and an X.
Thirumuru will face Chieh-lun Chen of Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals on October 1.
Thirumuru is India’s only remaining competitor in the men’s individual compound draw; India’s compound and recurve teams also reached semifinals.
