US Grants TSMC Annual Licence for China Imports
The US government has given a special permission to a company called TSMC to bring in American tools for making computer chips to their factory in China.
This permission is good for one year and helps them keep making chips without any stops.
Other companies like Samsung and SK Hynix have also got similar permissions.
Before this, these companies had special rights that let them bring in these tools easily, but those rights ended last year.
Now, they need to ask for permission every year.
The factory in China makes some types of chips but not the most advanced ones.
This factory makes a small part of the company's total money.
US grants TSMC an annual licence to import US chipmaking tools to its Nanjing, China facility.
Licence ensures uninterrupted operations and product deliveries for TSMC's Nanjing plant.
Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have also received similar import licences.
Previous exemptions expired on December 31, requiring companies to seek annual licences for 2026.
Nanjing plant produces 16-nanometre and mature node chips, contributing 2.4% of TSMC's overall revenue.
