IIT Bombay Researchers Discover New Blood Markers for Diabetes Risk
Imagine your body is like a busy city.
When something goes wrong, like getting diabetes, it's not just one street that gets messy.
Many different parts of the city have small changes happening.
Scientists at IIT Bombay looked at tiny things in people's blood, called metabolites, which are like clues left behind by these changes.
By studying these clues, they found new ones that can tell us if someone is more likely to get diabetes, even before they feel sick.
They also found clues that can show if someone with diabetes might have trouble with their kidneys.
This is important because it can help doctors find problems earlier and help people get the right treatment sooner, especially since India has so many people with diabetes.
IIT Bombay researchers have identified hidden blood markers for early diabetes risk detection using metabolomics.
The study analyzed nearly 300 metabolites in 52 volunteers to find biochemical patterns associated with diabetes.
26 metabolites, including some not previously linked to the disease, were found to differ between diabetic patients and healthy individuals.
Researchers also identified seven metabolites that can help predict diabetic kidney disease.
The findings aim to improve early detection and personalized treatment for diabetes, a condition affecting millions in India.
