Ukraine Grid Failure Causes Widespread Power Outages

On Saturday, January 31, a big problem happened in Ukraine's electricity system.

This caused power outages in many places, including Ukraine, Moldova, and parts of Romania.

The problem started at 10:42 a.m.

local time.

Because of this, some areas in Ukraine had emergency power cuts, and the metro in Kyiv stopped working.

The water supply in Kyiv was also temporarily stopped.

Ukraine's leaders said they are working to fix the problem.

Additionally, Ukraine and Russia agreed not to attack each other's energy systems for one week, starting on Friday night.

This agreement was made after the US asked Russia to stop attacking Ukrainian cities due to the cold weather.
