Assam, IIT-G to Train Engineers in Water Resource Management
Assam is teaming up with IIT-Guwahati to teach its water engineers how to better manage floods and water resources.
They'll take an online course for two years.
The goal is to help the engineers learn new technologies to help with flood control, erosion and sustainable water management.
About 20 engineers will be able to enroll each year.
The Water Resources Department has a big budget and wants to use technology to find long-term solutions to flooding problems.
The state has many kilometers of flood barriers that need to be updated.
The government hopes this will bring improvements to how they handle floods.
Assam signed an MoU with IIT-Guwahati for an online M-Tech program for WRD engineers.
The course focuses on flood control, climate resilience, and sustainable water management.
20 engineers from the WRD will enroll each year.
The initiative is part of a project under FREMAA with World Bank assistance.
The WRD aims to modernize flood and erosion control systems.
