Vizag Police Launch Program to Make City Beggar-Free
The Visakhapatnam police are working to make the city free of beggars.
They started a project called 'Jyotirgamaya' to help people who are begging.
Over the past 10 months, they've found and helped 243 people.
Some will get a place to stay, and others will be offered jobs based on what they can do.
They're working with charities to make this happen.
Some beggars were reunited with their families, and others needing mental health care were sent to a hospital.
The police also plan to help former prisoners find jobs.
Visakhapatnam police launched 'Jyotirgamaya' to eliminate begging and provide shelter or work for beggars.
The initiative, started 10 months prior, resulted in the rescue and sheltering of 243 beggars.
Beggars will be assessed for work opportunities based on ability and age with NGO and donor support.
45 healthy beggars were returned to their families after counseling, while 9 mentally weak individuals were sent to a hospital.
