India Boosts Domestic API Manufacturing
India is putting a lot of money into making important parts of medicines, called APIs, at home.
This is to make sure they don't run out and don't have to be imported.
The government has already spent a lot more than they planned, and they've started making many APIs that they used to get from other countries.
This is helping India save money and become more self-sufficient in making medicines.
The plan is to keep doing this until 2028-29.
India has invested Rs 4,763.34 crore in domestic API manufacturing under the PLI scheme.
The scheme aims to reduce dependence on imports and avoid supply disruptions.
Production capacities have been created for 26 APIs that were previously imported.
Cumulative sales under the scheme are Rs 2,315.44 crore, with exports worth Rs 508.12 crore.
The PLI Scheme for Pharmaceuticals has a budgetary outlay of Rs 15,000 crore and has exceeded investment targets.
