RLD chief Ramashish Rai quits party citing Constitution assaults

A man named Ramashish Rai was the leader of a political party in India called the Rashtriya Lok Dal, or RLD, in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

On Friday, he quit his job as the party's Uttar Pradesh chief and also left the party.

He said he did this because he believes India's Constitution — the country's most important set of rules — is being attacked.

He also thinks democracy, where people choose their leaders, is in danger.

He said rich and powerful people are gaining too much control over the country's democracy.

He said society is being divided into groups based on caste, sub-caste and community.

He gave his resignation letter to the party's national president, Chaudhary Jayant Singh, and also shared it on social media.

Rai said he does not plan to join another political party right now.

He said he might start a new organisation in the future with people who think like him.

The RLD works together with the Bharatiya Janata Party and the National Democratic Alliance in the central government and in the Uttar Pradesh government.
