ISI Students Seek Rahul Gandhi's Support Against Bill
Students and researchers from the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) met Rahul Gandhi to ask for his help.
They are worried about a new bill called the ISI Bill, 2025.
This bill could make their institute less independent.
Right now, teachers choose who is in charge of important decisions.
The bill wants to replace this with a group of people chosen by the government.
The students think this will give too much control to the government and take away the institute's freedom.
They want the bill to be discussed more before it becomes a law.
They also plan to meet another important person, Digvijaya Singh, to talk about their concerns.
ISI students and researchers met Rahul Gandhi to oppose the revised ISI Bill, 2025.
The bill proposes a Board of Governors nominated by the Union ministry, which could centralize control.
Students fear this will undermine the institute's democratic governance and autonomy.
The delegation requested the bill be referred to the standing committee for discussion.
The bill was uploaded on November 28, 2025, with public comments invited until December 15, 2025.
