SC Orders Ex-SIB Chief to Surrender in Phone-Tapping Case
The Supreme Court has ordered a former intelligence chief from Telangana, Mr. T. Prabhakar Rao, to go to the police station by December 12, 2025.
This is because he is involved in a case about illegally listening to people's phone calls and spying on important people.
The government says he didn't help with the investigation and might have destroyed evidence.
The court decided he should go to the police for questioning.
The police station where he needs to go is in Jubilee Hills, Telangana.
The court made this decision after hearing from the government's lawyer, Mr. Tushar Mehta.
Mr. Rao's lawyers say he has cooperated, but the court thinks more questioning is needed.
Supreme Court orders former Telangana SIB Chief T. Prabhakar Rao to surrender by December 12, 2025, for custodial interrogation.
Rao is accused of orchestrating widespread surveillance on politicians, judges, and others to benefit the previous BRS government.
Investigators allege Rao tampered with evidence by formatting devices and destroying hard drives.
Rao's counsel argues compliance and cooperation with the investigation, citing six sittings with the SIT and production of email IDs.
The court rejected house arrest suggestions, emphasizing lawful interrogation without physical harm due to Rao's age.
